HI!!
Christmas IS just round the corner !!
We begin our holidays on the 24th of December and they last until the 6th of January 2010!!
Usually we spend Christmas at home or at our relatives where we take Pandoro and eat it all together!
Pandoro is one of the two tipicals cakes. !!I love it!!!
It is made with flour, sugar, eggs, butter and cocoa butter.
The name Pandoro (which means gold bread) derives from the gold color of this dessert. But the origins are not sure. Someone thinks that Pandoro was born in the Republic of Venice in 1500, when , on the tables of rich people, conical cakes, covered with gold leaves, called, “Pan de Or”, were served.
The production of Pandoro was improved at the end of 1800 in Verona.
For those who don't like Pandoro there is Panettone!! That is a little different…but it is also good!!
It is made with flour, butter, sugar, yeast, raisins, candied, eggs and a bit of salt.
The traditional legend says that Panettone was born from an ancien habit that was common in Milan’s houses. The Head of the family controlled that good bread made of wheat was made and at the end of the making he drew a cross on it that was the symbol of a good new year. The bread had to be eaten during a ceremony called “ceppo”(log) because it was put on a oak log in the fireplace . The head of the family put the wine into a glass and all had to drink from the same glass and then he gave money to all the members and they had to put it into the fire. At the end the bread was eaten and theY had to keep a slice until the next year..If you didn’t do it you were going to be unlucky.

I think that Christmas is a good day to stay with our family…it could be with relatives that we have not seen for a long time .Christmas is the day of the FAMILY!!

All these sweet things look delicious. Is it typical for Italian people to bake special cakes for Christmas?
In Poland we have several traditional Xmas cakes and other dishes.

Too bad Christmas are over.
Happy New Year!!
Oh, I'd really like to try Pandoro - it looks elicious!! :)
Christmas - eating time :P (in Poland - oh Gosh, it's mainly about eating... or at least it seems so. I was afraid I'd have to say goodbye to my waist! )
This looks delicious. I have just had my lunch but if there a plate of Pandoro in front of me right now I would eat it all up!

Thanks for the info!

In the UK we have stuffed turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, and brussel sprouts on 25th Dec. Our Chrustmas cakes are full of raisins and usually covvered in marzipan and then white icing. We also have a Christmas pudding that is full of brandy and is set on fire before serving it with custard.

MMmmm Pandoro Mmmmm
